March Playlist

Here are the songs I listened to most in March. Find monthly playlists from me on Spotify

Church – Fall Out Boy

Record – M A N I A

Favourite Lyrics: “If you were church, I’d get on my knees, confess my love. I’d know where to be, my sanctuary, you’re holy to me.”

Possibly Stump’s best vocals on this record. With gospel and RnB overtones, Church stands out from the rest of the tracks on this record.

Crazy = Genius – Panic! at the Disco

Record – Death Of A Bachelor

Favourite Lyrics: “You’re so straight like commuters with briefcases towing the line.
There’s no residue of a torturer inside of your eyes.”

Not a world a way from Fever‘s ‘There’s A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey…’ – think jazzy sax, fuzzy guitar and clever lyrics with a nod to The Beach Boys.

Brother – Kodaline

Record – Politics Of Living

Favourite Lyrics: “If I was dying on my knees you would be the one to rescue me
and if you were drowned at sea I would give you my lungs so you could breathe.”

The lyrics and video (it will make you tear up!), are both perfect. I’ve heard this one live and believe me, it’s stunning. Those dynamic harmonies sound just as good in real life.

I Fall Apart – Post Malone

Record – Stoney

Favourite Lyrics: “Now there’s too many thoughts goin’ through my brain and now I’m takin’ these shots like it’s Novocaine.”

This one surprised me – more emotive than I expected and decent enough vocals that are almost a little grungy.

Sorry Not Sorry – Demi Lovato

Record – Tell Me You Love Me

Favourite Lyrics: “Now, payback is a bad bitch and baby, I’m the baddest.
You fuckin’ with a savage, can’t have this, can’t have this and it’d be nice of me to take it easy on ya, but nah.”

One for the haters. Unapologetic with powerful vocals, Lovato is back on form after a quiet year.

February Playlist

Here are the songs I listened to most in February. Find monthly playlists from me on Spotify

Afterglow – All Time Low

Record: Last Young Renegade

Favourite Lyrics: ‘Step outside in the midnight rain, king and queen of the streets again. Got young blood running through our veins and it keeps us numb like Novocaine.’

Moody and nostalgic with a different feel than All Time Low has become known for. A cliffhanger that makes you wonder ‘What’s next?’

Told You So – Paramore

Record: After Laughter

Favourite Lyrics: ‘At least I try to keep my cool when I’m thrown into a fire.’

Funky with a nod to the 80’s, this one always gets me singing along!

It’s Time – Imagine Dragons

Record: Night Visions

Favourite Lyric: ‘I get a little bit bigger, but then I’ll admit I’m just the same as I was. Now don’t you understand that I’m never changing who I am.’

A bit folksy with a catchy hook and some well times hand claps. Sure to get stuck in your head.

Death of a Bachelor – Panic! at the Disco

Record: Death Of A Bachelor

Favourite lyrics: ‘I’m cutting my mind off, feels like my heart is going to burst. Alone at a table for two and I just wanna be served. And when you think of me am I the best you’ve ever had? Share one more drink with me, smile even though you’re sad.’

Featuring jazzy trumpet and smooth vocals. The man himself described this as somewhere between Sinatra and Beyonce and I think that’s pretty spot on!

I Did Something Bad – Taylor Swift

Record: Reputation

Favourite lyrics: ‘They’re burning all the witches, even if you aren’t one, so light me up, light me up.’

Taylor Swift is my guilty pleasure. Honestly, what I like about this song is Swift not giving a shit about what people think and unashamedly calling them all out.

No video for this one as neither Taylor or her label has uploaded one!

January Playlist

Here are the songs I listened to most in January. Find monthly playlists from me on Spotify

Crash – All Tvvins

Released as a single in 2017.

Favourite lyrics: ‘There’s no right or wrong. How can there be when it’s the side you were born on is the side you are for?’

Synthy, ethereal and emotive.

Wilson (Expensive Mistakes) – Fall Out Boy

Record – M A N I A.

Favourite lyrics: ‘I hope the roof flies off and I get blown out into space.
I always make such expensive mistakes.’

A throwback to emo Fall out boy; at times both soulful and melodramatic while still keeping the pop punk tone that FOB are known for.

Bear Claws – The Academic

Record – Tales From The Backseat

Favourite lyrics: ‘Show me all your flaws, show me your bear claws. Go rip your heart out tonight’.

Indie pop with a chorus that makes it perfect for live shows. Check out the Facebook Live Loop version of this!

Run – Foo Fighters

Record: Concrete and Gold

Favourite Lyrics: ‘In another perfect life, in another perfect light, we run.’

From a mellow opening to thrashing guitar & Grohl’s screaming vocals, this is a Foo’s classic.

Trees – Twenty One Pilots

Record: Vessel

Favourite Lyrics: ‘I want to know you, I want to see, I want to say hello.’

Synthy with yearning vocals to begin with before building to a frantic climax that always gets the crowd shouting along at live shows.

(Performance starts at 1:38)
